How valuable are mobile phones? In terms of convenience? Priceless! Imagine how even after getting a new phone, transferring your old data and contacts into the new one is almost a breeze? Although much of the headlines are focused on increasing the revenues and retaining customers of telecommunication providers, there are so much more that consumers should look into than just the new phone lineups and discounts. What are these?

Consumer Convenience

Seldom will consumers realize that much of the convenience that they derive from their mobile phones is actually out of the hands of the telco providers. For example, the ability to move contacts, files, and other information from your old phone to your new one is not part of the services of your mobile carrier.

As an emerging market, telco companies should begin putting a premium on the smooth and consolidated transfer of personal effects as a form of added value to their customers. But how can mobile carriers do this? How about personal Clouds?

Cloud Integration

What is the status of Cloud integration by mobile carriers? In a 2012 research conducted by Ericsson, significant amounts of money and time have been dedicated to achieve Cloud integration so that it can be bundled with existing services. For example, it was uncovered that Verizon has spent more than $2 billion to get a huge chunk of the Cloud community.

Telstra of Australia on the other hand has predicted that as much as 20% to 30% of its 2018 revenue may come from the Cloud. But with this much attention, why is it that no carrier is hinting on mobile plans that are anchored on Cloud computing? This is quite unusual considering that the technology has so much unexplored possibilities that can contribute to the revenues of mobile carriers.


In 2015, about 63% of Android device owners revealed that they had anywhere from 1 to 4 smartphones with 21% saying that they owned 3 Android devices. The average smartphone plan is anywhere from 2 to 3 years. What does this mean? Simply put, a lot of inconvenience in transferring and sharing data and other information between devices.

Although the first commercially available Android device only had 256Mb of memory, smartphones today feature significant internal storage that is enough to accommodate huge amounts of photos, documents, videos, and other forms of data.

Contacts, notes, and calendars can be synced using the carrier’s infrastructure. But with regards to messages, documents, photos, and videos, computers or third-party apps are required. With the emerging consumer market, it makes more sense for mobile carriers to deliver a solution that will give multiple smartphone users the convenience to transfer and share all forms of data among their devices; something that white label Cloud solutions can respond to.

Backup and Access

As far as the cost of Cloud integration with existing mobile services is concerned, there are many affordable and scalable options that Cloud technology can offer. This includes ensuring that mobile service customers will not be helplessly handcuffed to certain mobile packages and should be allowed other options in case they go beyond what they are allotted.

Why mobile carriers do not take advantage of branding and advertising new Cloud features is puzzling. Because when you look at the overall picture, this is a feature that will give them an edge over competitors that do not offer the functionality of seamlessly transferring all user data and files to other owned devices.

With smartphones brandishing more and more internal memory, it is not farfetched to say that white label Cloud solutions would become an in demand feature.
